Lift Your Light by Yoon Nam

The month of May is at our door step. It’s hard to believe how fast time passes. I am very excited in the month of May to “Pray in May.”  Some people compare prayer to breathing.  I understand that view of “breathing” but I think that even though we can’t survive without breathing, we can live without prayers.  I think that living without prayers as Christians is like being alive without deep breathing. We often live without enough deep breathing. I notice when I am physically or emotionally involved,  I ... Read More »

Just Love by Yoon Nam

This week I have experienced nonstop thunderstorms in Bloomington, Indiana. I am visiting my school to finish up my dissertation. Hearing last Sunday’s powerful sermon, I have thought about passion in God’s calling. I could feel strong passion from the pastor’s heart through his words. What is our calling as Christians from the Lord? Our common calling is to be one of His followers. One of the newspaper pictures from Boston keeps recurring in my head and it is related to our calling. A runner held a wounded stranger to ... Read More »

We Are the Church by Yoon Nam

As we start a new sermon series with “Just Love,” it leads me into many thoughts about my experiences.  God continually emphasizes that we take care of the fatherless, widows, and foreigners with the same compassion and mercy that God shows us. We all have donated or volunteered to help those in need in different ways here and there. Even though justice requires action to be completed, I have examined the attitude in my heart toward them. I confess, shamefully, that my heart is filled with hypocrisy. When I pass ... Read More »

Easter People, Easter Songs by Yoon Nam

“He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me, along life’s narrow way. He lives, He lives, salvation to impart. You ask me how I know He lives, He lives within my heart.” I hope everyone had a blessed Easter. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all who worked so hard during Holy Week and Easter. Choir members spent many hours rehearsing and praying prayers to lift up the best music to glorify God on Good Friday night, and at ... Read More »

Behold the Lamb by Yoon Nam

Then John saw Jesus coming toward him, and John said, ”Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29) Holy Week gives us special moments to steer our daily routines closer to the cross, and a chance to pause and meditate on the meaning of Holy Week and Easter. In the early churches, they read the Passion story from one of the Gospels during the Holy Week. Originally, a priest read through the Passion story and in the Middle Ages, they recited it with ... Calling My Name by Yoon Nam

A newspaper survey recently found that people have a tendency to give names to their smart phones and cars. As I understand, this must come from having smart phones with voices that response to their owners. I don’t have a smart phone so I haven’t made a name for any phones yet.  However, I have given names to my cars such as Grace, Little Foot, Maxie, and Dove. And yes, I talk to my car daily. A phrase from last Sunday’s sermon comes to mind, “ the good shepherd knows ... Read More »

The Blessing of Music by Yoon Nam

Our Christmas cantata Sunday is this week! The cantata choir has been rehearsing the music since September. They have been praying for many things along with the musical practice. I personally want to thank everyone involved with the cantata in many ways for their effort, hearts, and prayers. I have been blessed by them throughout the preparation. Thank you all so much! As I share often with you all through this blog, it is a true blessing that we get to praise and worship God with beautiful music. God has ... Read More »
